Developments
Since 2002, there have been a number of developments through the Better Healthcare Closer to Home programme. These include:
- The musculoskeletal centre in Sutton. Patients with joint and muscle problems can be seen quickly and advised on a course of treatment from a specialist, without having to wait for a hospital appointment
- New, state-of-the art buildings with room for more services at Francis Grove Surgery, Figges Marsh Surgery and Robin Hood Lane
- The new Green Wrythe Lane Health Centre. Built on the same site as the former clinic, the pupose-built centre provides an expanded community dental service, new surgeries for podiatry (chiropody) services, and additional classes for new parents. There are also more consulting rooms for use by all services
- The new Robin Hood Lane Health Centre, which was officially opened in April 2008. The Health Centre is located in a modern building, suitable for the 21st century, which can house additional services. It is expected that these will include a breast screening service for people who previously had to visit Sutton Hospital.
In April 2008, the redevelopment plans for a new modern health centre at Shotfield were given the go ahead. The new £10 million health centre will be built on the same site as the existing GP clinic and will improve community-based health services for local people. It is scheduled to open its doors to patients in winter 2010. The Shotfield Health Centre is being developed as the first phase of a Local Care Centre, with plans to expand services in the future.
